The island named Java is a well-known island in Indonesia, where I live and work in the cities Jakarta (capital of Indonesia) and Bandung (capital of the province West Java), but a part of North Amsterdam is called Java as well, the photo is taken from nearby the hotel where I staid for a few days this summer: Lloyd Hotel.

Some months ago I posted a photo, see here, about the new bilingual street signs in Bandung. I am now visiting my parents in the small town of Simpelveld, in the south of the Netherlands, and to my surprise the municipiality signs are now replaced for bilingual ones: Dutch (Simpelveld) and the local dialect (Zumpelveld). Perhaps we can say that identity politics is a global issue.
